Adapting Odoo commercial operations for a technical distributor
Electrical equipment & automation distribution
A Moroccan distributor of electrical equipment and automation solutions needed Odoo to reflect its business rules. The engagement connected its main commercial processes and resolved an inventory valuation issue in Odoo 13.
The need: consistent commercial management
Sales, purchasing, inventory, invoicing and payments are closely connected in distribution. The project needed to cover these operations while accommodating product requirements and supplier rules or discounts.
A second challenge concerned product costing: incorrect behaviour during certain inventory operations was affecting valuation consistency.
Scope of the engagement
The consultant’s assignment covered analysis of the relevant processes, configuration, functional adaptations and custom development. It also included investigating and correcting inventory and valuation issues.
The implemented solution
Connect commercial operations
Odoo was configured and adapted to cover sales, purchasing, inventory movements, invoicing and advanced payment tracking. These processes were brought together within the delivered commercial management scope.
Support product and supplier rules
Custom developments addressed product-management requirements and supplier-specific rules and discounts. These adaptations represented the distributor’s operating processes within Odoo.
Correct receipt valuation
The investigation traced inventory movements through valuation and product-cost updates.
The issue was identified and corrected to restore behaviour consistent with the average-costing method (AVCO) used in this environment.
Delivered outcomes
The delivered scope covers commercial operations, payment tracking and product- and supplier-specific requirements.
The technical correction restored correct receipt valuation and reliable product costing. This addresses the identified issue without implying unmeasured financial or productivity gains.
The Modoo Tech perspective
ERP reliability depends both on visible workflows and on the mechanisms that produce their data. This experience illustrates the approach we advocate: understand the business requirement, adapt the relevant functions and address the underlying technical behaviour when data consistency requires it.
